Track Biography:

The Mid-Antrim Hunt was formally set up in the 1870’s as a harrier pack, although it was in existence for at least a hundred years before that. It was believed to have had its first official meeting in The Thatch Pub in Broughshane in 1875.

The Mid Antrim point-to-point Course is just outside Moneyglass very close to Toomebridge. Toome or Toomebridge (from Irish: Tuaim, meaning "tumulus"), is a small village and townland on the northwest corner of Lough Neagh in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Moneyglass was at one time home to Malachy McCourt and his family who was the father of Frank McCourt, author of Angela's Ashes, a winner of The Pulitzer Prize, the NBCC Award, The LA Times Award and the Royal Society of Literature Award.

Champion National Hunt jockey and 2010 BBC Sports Personality of the Year winner, Tony McCoy, who received an OBE in 2010, was born in Moneyglass.

Another sports star reared in Moneyglass was world famous Rugby Union player Willie John McBride who capped for Ireland on 63 occasions which includes 12 times as Captain.

Paddy Turley won this race last year and will attempt to repeat the feat with Lady Of Down, a Blue Bresil mare that stepped forward from her debut to finish third at Tattersalls in May. Im Feeling progressed with each of her three efforts in this spring which is encouraging, and that experience will stand to her around here, whilst My Girl Rosie has the advantage of more recent efforts, having been in action under rules during the summer. She finished fifth over hurdles at Downpatrick on her latest effort in July.

SUNSET CAROUSEL was in pursuit of the subsequent E320,000 seller Night League when tipping up two-out in Ballysteen last April, and he could gain compensation here. Stablemate Back The Park is one of two other horses with previous placed form alongside Carrigslaney Rock, whilst Cracken Smile was not beaten too far when fourth at Fairyhouse on his debut.

POETS LAUREATE would have added a third consecutive placed finish to his CV but for coming down at the final fence in Ballyknock last April in what looked set to be a personal best effort. That looks to leave him as the one to beat here. Glenhead had been sent off as the favourite for his debut at Necarne in May, and he is sure to step forward from that placed finish for a stable who rarely leave this course without a winner, whilst Sligo bumper fifth Lupin Du Chenet, and the 78-rated hurdler Artic Chief have more recent track form to their names.

It is hard to look beyond the returning Katkoriko in this. The French-bred had several subsequent winners behind him when impressing with a 16-length four-year-old maiden success in Kirkistown. That was back in March 2025, and if returning anywhere near that level after 18 months off, he will be hard to beat. His former stablemate, Werweiss, has joined David Christie since winning at this venue in May, and he looks the danger ahead of In Around Thehouse, who was placed in a Kilbeggan bumper in August.

Sam Curling saddled three winners across the two fixtures at this venue last season, and NANCY WHEELER could give him a good shot of adding to that here. She posted a career best when switching to more positive tactics at Wexford in late August, beaten just six lengths in a maiden hurdle. The more experienced Barely Made It has been a regular at Wexford during the year, finishing placed over fences there on her penultimate outing, but does having a disappointing outing from her latest effort to overcome, whilst Crazy Nancy came with a head of winning this race 12 months ago, but has only run once since then.

SUTHERLAND was twice placed last season over hurdles off marks of 112 and 111 when with Tom Ellis, and he could make a winning start to life between the flags having switched stables during the summer. Glendine Billy is another horse having his first start for a new stable here, and he too has placed rules form to his name, but is rated 22lbs below Sutherland on their hurdle marks. The Gallan ended last season knocking on the door of a maiden win in this sphere and is another to have changed hands over the summer, whilst Beau Coup finished third at Ballingarry last time.
