Track Biography:

Kinsale Point to Point along with running a two-day premier race meeting at the end of the point-to-point season also hold an Autumn fixture.

It's a great family day out, the racetrack has superb viewing with food, drink and entertainment.

The first official record of a South Union Foxhounds point-to-point race dates from 1945, when it was held at Warner’s Cross. In 1947, the races moved to Ballinrea near Carrigaline.

In more recent years, the races were held at Cappagh, very close to Kinsale, with winter fixtures at Rochestown.

The races moved to Fort Arthur on the Old Head of Kinsale briefly before alighting on the current site at Farrangalway in 2007.

Kinsale is the gourmet centre of Ireland ! Don’t forget to plan for some seriously good food in one of Kinsale’s award-winning restaurants such as Fishy Fishy, Bastion, The Blue Hazen and Finns Table, to name a few.

There is plenty else to do with activities in Kinsale range from sightseeing and walking to adventure sports, arts and culture. Check out Kinsale.ie for full details of attractions like Charles Fort.

There’s something for everyone – did you know Kinsale people are environmental pioneers, leading the way as a “Transition Town”? Or that Kinsale marks the start of the famous Wild Atlantic Way?

The Kinsale meeting held in the Spring marks the end of the Point-to-Point season, where jockey and trainer championships are decided, and there is great rivalry with horses competing from as far afield as Northern Ireland. Sunday also features family entertainment, with a hound parade, dog show, pony rides and best-dressed competitions, topped off with a concert.

Sean Doyle has sent out winners on each of the past couple of weekends and he could continue his good end to the season with THE GUARDIAN here. The daughter of Stowaway was pitched in against geldings for her debut at Tralee last Saturday where she emerged with plenty of credit by finishing a fine fourth. Miss Mondito was a beaten favourite at Dromahane last month but had run well in Rathcannon on her debut ensuring she has definite live chances, with Presenting Ana and Gettysburgh others that cannot be discounted.

AHEAD OF SCHEDULE has been a bit inconsistent this season but his efforts at Portrush and more recently at Loughanmore would entitle him to win an end of season race like this. The Cormac Doyle pairing of Fier Jaguen and Begoodtoyourself, both featured at Loughanmore last month, and whilst the former was not at his best when only sixth but if he could get back to the form that saw him finish fourth to Pens Man in Lisronagh he would be a big danger. Bartlemy fifth Breakeven is another that could enter the mix alongside Dave And Bernie, who finished fourth on his debut at Loughrea.

MINIMUM MIX took a big step forward with his six-length success at Ballindenisk last month, and with similar ground conditions likely to prevail, he could fend off last weeks Inchydoney winner Carrig Hill. Solo Cargo has six lengths to find with the selection on their recent meeting at Ballindenisk, and so it may prove to be either Super Citizen or Gold Sun that step up to provide the greatest of opposition.

ORPEN WELLS must bounce back from a wide-margin defeat at Tralee just eight days ago as he re-appears quickly, but this looks an ideal opportunity for a horse that has been unlucky to remain a maiden to this point. Saxophonic has really struggled since his final-fence departure at Kirkistown earlier in the winter whilst sitting upsides at the time. Having shown that promise he cannot be discounted, whilst Boro Melody has an eye-catching piece of form from his penultimate start where he was just ten lengths behind the now Grade 2 winner Chosen Mate at Loughbrickland in October and is dropping down in class.

The locally trained NATURAL FIT brings the two strongest pieces of form into this race having been narrowly denied earlier in the season and should be capable of getting her head in front following a short break. Things have not gone to plan for Luscious Lilly this season but her narrow defeat at Dromahane 12 months ago is very eye-catching in the context of this race, as she has also changed yards since falling at Boulta in December. Ballinamona Flyer made up late ground at Stradbally last Saturday to finish placed for the second time on the bounce, whilst Inchydoney faller Honest To Goodness, the consistently placed Kind Witness are others with big chances.

Preview

The supporters of DORAN THE LEGEND would be deserving of a return here as he has been a beaten favourite on each of his last four outings, including when well supported at Ballyvodock in February. Whilst things have not gone his way since then, this would look an ideal opportunity for him. Vermout Fougeray has been targeted at an end of season campaign in recent years, and he will look to go one place better than his narrow defeat in last years renewal when he missed out on a maiden success by just a neck, whilst Benbulben Blue was placed at Necarne last month and is another likely contender.
