Track Biography:

Rathcannon point-to-point has played host to many Hunts over the years and more recently to the Limerick Foxhounds & the Limerick Foxhounds Bruff point-to-point committee.

Many talented riders and horses have graduated from the Limerick Foxhounds point-to-point both when racing on the past venues and presently at Rathcannon.

The track itself is a left-handed course and has been in operation since 2008.

Our race meeting is situated just 40 minutes from Limerick city and just half an hour from the scenic town of Adare, making a trip to Rathcannon point-to-point part of a perfect Family Sunday.

How To Get There

Eircode: V35 Y026 

By Road

From Limerick, take the M20 and at junction 5 exit onto the N20 Cork/Croom road. Stay on the N20 until you reach Banogue at which point the point-to-point will be sign posted from there. The race track is two miles from the village of Athlacca.

By Air

Shannon Airport is a 45 minute drive from the point-to-point.
Cork Airport is located an hour and twenty five minutes away.

We have an extensive car parking area which offers a brilliant view of the whole track.

This allows you to bring your picnic in the boot of your vehicle which you can enjoy with your family and friend’s during the day’s racing whilst not missing out on any of the action.

In our bookmakers ring you can view and bet on any off-course races on the day in both England and Ireland.

Food

There will be outside caterers on site which will offer a wide range of hot tasty food such as, burgers, sausages and chips.

For those with more of a sweet tooth, there is a confectionary stall on site which has a wide variety on offer.

All are reasonably priced.

There is plenty of variety on offer from our outside caterers.

Those looking to warm up in between races can purchase teas and coffees.

Whilst those looking for refreshments can avail of the selection on offer from our caterers.

Is there a dress code for point-to-points?

No we do not have an official dress code we just advise race goers to stay warm and dry for your days racing and to prepare yourself for all types of Irish weather.

Yes however we do ask that all dogs are kept on a lead at all times.

Yes we welcome visitors to bring their own picnics.

At our point-to-point we are lucky to have wide open spaces for children to play in a safe environment.

No we do not provide an ATM so we recommend that you make a stop at an ATM on your way to the races.

Amenities

Bruff point-to-point is the perfect day out for the family in the countryside and as an added bonus for parents all children U16 have free admission.

Race goers have the opportunity to get a close up of the action when the runners are being saddled and paraded in the parade ring before their race. The fence in our home straight allows you to get a perfect viewing point of each race whether you are on foot or in the comfort of your car.

With Limerick city only 30 minutes from the track, there is an endless amount of attractions to keep you busy within the area. The picturesque town of Killarney is only an hour and half drive from the point-to-point.

The Virginia Considine-trained SHISHKIN made a very promising debut when finishing a very respectable third at Inch on his debut last spring, and he could be one to take note of on his return to action. Eclair Des Sablons only lost out on a maiden success when blundering at the final fence at Lisronagh a fortnight ago, which would leave him close to a maiden success, whilst the likes of Eaglehill, Dundrum Wood, Pres, Chazza, Hurricane Arcadio and Potters Venture are others for the shortlist.

GAYE BREEZE was all out of luck at The Pigeons last month when carried completely off the course. He is better judged on his Castletown-Geoghegan performance when chasing home Shawshank, a horse that has since advertised that form line. The main threat could come from the likes of Tralee-second Track Mac, who holds multiple entries across the weekend, whilst the likes of Top Question, The Bonny Boy and Morningside are others to consider.

My Forever Friend was a deserving winner at Ballinaboola recently, having been unlucky to come down at Damma House earlier in the month, whilst Gaye Breeze, who is entered in the five-year-old maiden earlier on the card, would have to be given serious consideration for this on his second to Shawshank at Castletown-Geoghegan.
